Primary Ballet* (ages 4-6)
The objective of this class is to provide an early child development foundation for Basic Ballet. Children learn to concentrate and practice listening skills needed to follow directions. This class develops awareness of the child’s body and its capabilities.

Pre-Grade 1 Ballet* (ages 6-8)
A continuation of Primary Ballet, this class includes more extensive work with rhythms, balance, and physical coordination. Emphasis for correct use of legs, feet and alignment of the torso helps to prepare the young dancer for the formal structure of a ballet technique.

Ballet (ages 8-12) & Ballet I
This class offers the ballet student the basic tenets and principles of ballet technique. Class work will involve strong emphasis on proper alignment of the body, dynamic timings, and a command of ballet terminology.

Ballet II/III
Further develop technical efficiency in more complex movement patterns including tours en terre and en’lair, temps leve and transitional movements in petite and grade allegro. Class work will still involve strong emphasis on proper alignment of the body, dynamic timings, and a more in depth understanding and command of a broader list of ballet terminology.

Modern (ages 5-8) (ages 8-12)
Introduces the fundamental principles of Modern dance and builds week to week. Basic movement concepts such as over curve/under curve and contraction/release of the torso, articulation of the spine, and modern dance vocabulary will be taught and reviewed in depth. Class will also focus on proper alignment, musicality, and center work. This class will break down the movement and provide students with exercises that build strength, increase flexibility and provide a foundation that can be applied to all dance styles.

Modern I
Modern emphasizes the use of the floor for centering and grounding oneself in movement. This class focuses on the breath (inhale/exhale), which brings quality to one’s movement. Concepts of overcurve/undercurve, contraction/release, musicality and rhythm are explored.

Modern II/III
A logical progression of advanced classical based modern dance technique. Performing skills assessed and developmentally stressed. Sections of repertory works learned as a tool for challenging phrasing, style and fulfillment of choreographic intent.

Modern Repertoire**
Modern Repertoire is designed to introduce the dancer to the choreography of Frankie Hart. Provides the opportunity for the students to learn and perform selected choreography.

Jazz Dance
Discover and enhance your quality of movement that support jazz dance technique; building strength, coordination and musicality. The stretch routines will loosen the limbs, improve flexibility, and tone muscle without bulk.

Musical Theatre Workshop (ages 8-12)
Exploration of Broadway Voice, Dance, and Acting Techniques utilized in Musical Theatre performance. The work of the class will cumulate in DVD, Audio CD and live performance of class work.

Belly Dancing***
Built from isolations, moving one part of the body while the rest remains motionless. Learning isolations acquire strength, flexibility, coordination, a grounded center of gravity, and of course, good posture. Please wear a camisole top or sports bra with yoga pants or peasant skirt. A fringed shawl or scarf would be recommended.

African Dance****
A blend of African and Caribbean movement (flexible torso and spine, articulated pelvis and isolation of the limbs and poly rhythmic movement) integrated with techniques of ballet and modern dance.

The Primary Ballet and the Pre-Grade 1 Ballet is devised to ensure student enjoyment, allowing for creative applications. Both levels provide attainable goals that build self-confidence in their developmental progress and successful achievements.

**Students enrolled in Modern I or Modern II/III can sign up for Modern Repertoire, other students must receive permission from the Artistic Director.
