Yoga Class Descriptions

Yoga Basics

If you are new to yoga or have been away from the practice for a while, this is the class for you. Yoga Basics will introduce various asanas, or postures, the use of the breath, basic use of props and will cover the benefits of yoga such as balance, strength and flexibility. Yoga Basics is open to all levels of practitioners.

Intermediate Yoga

Designed for our intermediate yoga students (at least one year experience), this class is not simply a yoga "work out," but rather focuses on deepening the student's understanding and experience of yoga.  This class will work on refining the practice of the basic asanas (postures) and introduce more advanced asanas such as inversions and back bending.  In addition, students will gain a deeper understanding of pranayama (breathwork) and its benefits to the practice of yoga.

Therapeutic Yoga

This slower-paced flowing yoga class is designed to promote health and relaxation by working the entire body in a calming and gentle way. It is tailored for those of us who are looking to relieve stress and anxiety, increase energy, and ease the mind by becoming aware of the importance of the breath in our body. Gentle yoga is recommended for all levels of yoga practitioners and can be especially beneficial to those recovering from injury or illness.

Restorative Yoga

Restorative yoga is an Iyengar-based class for yoga practitioners who are looking for an increased sense of health and longevity and to deepen their personal yoga practice. Through simple, yet intense movements, this practice alternately stimulates and relaxes the body to move toward balance.  Restorative yoga is an asana class in which inversions will be taught and appropriate asana modifications for each individual will be addressed.  This class is especially beneficial for students interested in reducing stress.

Yoga Conditioning for Men

Grounded in the breath, yoga conditioning for men will focus on strength (core stabilization), stamina, flexibility (opening the hips, back, neck, and chest) and a building awareness of the mind/body through movement, the various postures (asanas) and breathing exercises.  This class is designed to address specific issues associated with the male body and is open to all levels of yoga practitioners.

Ashtanga Yoga

This yoga series, designed by K. Pattabhi Jois, involves synchronizing the breath with a progressive series of postures carried out at a nearly aerobic pace.  The result is improved circulation, a light and strong body, and a calm mind.  It is recommended for intermediate and advanced yoga practitioners and requires a certain amount of upper body strength.

Hot Yoga

Hot Yoga, performed in a heated room (95-105 degrees), develops balance, strength and flexibility through a carefully designed series of postures. It rejuvenates tissue, reverses the aging process, reshapes muscles and tendons and stabilizes weight while it builds will power, self-control and patience. The heat helps facilitate these processes.  It is recommended that students bring a towel and a bottle of water to class.

Pranayama/Meditation

This class combines the practice of pranayama (breath control) with a series of gentle asanas (postures) intended to support the mind and body while allowing the nervous system to rest.  It is recommended for students of all levels who are looking to relax the body and settle the mind.

Prenatal Yoga

Prenatal yoga is a wonderful way to exercise and connect with yourself and your baby.  This class will prepare mom-to-be for the rigors of childbirth by improving flexibility, particularly in the hips, and increasing body strength and endurance.  In addition to the physical exercises, students will learn breathing techniques to release fear and anxiety, helping them to relax and enjoy this special time. No previous yoga experience is required.

Yoga for Kids of All Ages

Yoga for Kids is a fun, creative approach to yoga that can be very helpful for children whose bodies are still developing. Children are encouraged to explore and discover the mind and body through the use of animated poses and basic stretching exercises to promote strength, flexibility and coordination. Breathing and visualization techniques will also be practiced teaching kids how to focus, relax and develop self-control. For class times click here.

Yoga Family Fun! $10/Child Only, $15/Child & Parent $20/Family

Core Conditioning

Core Conditioning is Frankie Hart’s unique pilates-based mat class that focuses on strengthening the powerhouse, the muscles in the center of our body that are instrumental in creating and maintaining good posture and alignment.  Each challenging workout develops strength, flexibility, balance and coordination. For best results, it is encouraged that students engage in two (2) classes per week.

Tai Chi

Tai Chi can perhaps best be thought of as a moving form of meditation. Tai Chi fosters a calm and tranquil mind. Learning to do the forms correctly provides a practical avenue for learning balance, alignment, fine-scale motor control, rhythm of movement, and the genesis of movement from the body’s vital center. Tai Chi can also contribute to being able to better stand, walk, move, and run. Many practitioners notice benefits in terms of correcting poor postural, alignment, or movement patterns which can cause tension or injury. Furthermore, the meditative nature of the exercises is calming and relaxing in and of itself.
