Yoga Philosophy & the Parasympathetic Nervous System
Date(s) - Saturday Aug 26, 2017
1:00pm - 4:00pm
In this workshop Frankie Hart explores the internal limbs of yoga – breath, concentration, meditation & samadhi. As we enter into this realm, guided by the teachings of the Yoga Sutras, our mind become clear and our body relaxes and rejuvenates. We enter into a state of being governed by the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) allowing us to step outside of our daily “fright, freeze, flight” reactivity.
PNS activation reduces blood pressure, slows the heart and breathing rates, and redirects blood flow to our digestive and reproductive organs as well as the endocrine and lymphatic systems. In other words, we cultivate better digestion, enjoy a more sensual lifestyle, and have the ability to respond differently to stress-inducing thoughts or experiences. This mental flexibility gives us the choice to feel good regardless of the conditions we find ourselves in. Stimulating the PNS through meditation and restorative yoga elevates our mood, decreases cortisol, strengthens the immune system and increases physical and psychological well-being.
Root yourself in both the ancient traditions of yoga and current science.
Return to balance.
Experience a strong body and quiet mind.
